Worcester Park Baptist Church is celebrating
125yrs of worshipping, serving, sharing and growing together as a church
community. For their anniversary I have been asked to create an art
work that reflects the diverse community of the church and the church
through the ages. The community is a good mix of folks, some who have
been members for generations and others who come from afar like Nigeria,
Korea, Japan and myself from South Africa. For this piece I want to
capture the meaning of church life, that a church is the people not the
building, the bonds that are formed, the activities and the support that
one gets from being part of a church family growing in faith.
I
spent a couple of weekends meeting, photographing and getting to know
better the people of the church and collecting photos and stories to do
with the history of the church and it’s members.
I have used the images to build the church as a collage and I will be adding text to the collage taken from relevant scriptures and literature connected with WPBC. It will be completed in time for the anniversary celebrations on the 6th of June.
