“Beauty in Broken Places”, debut solo exhibition by Lindsay Terhorst North

Friday 22 November 2013, London: Lindsay Terhorst North today announces the debut solo exhibition “Beauty in Broken Places”, at the Gallery, Adam Street Private Members’ Club, 9 Adam Street, London WC2N 6AA lasting for a period of eight weeks.

The exhibition reflects Lindsay’s diverse background and is shaped by her youth spent in South Africa versus her contrasting urban adult life in London. Lindsay has struggled with issues of identity, displacement and personal meaning throughout her life and this has influenced not only the focus of her creations – the strength and longevity of trees – but her approach. The distressed nature of her art depicts the way trauma imprints on the psyche, with layers of mixed media scraped, lifted and reapplied to reflect the constant perseverance it takes to resolve the past in order to be present.

Kerry Chapman, General Manager of Adam Street Private Members’ Club, said “What I like about this exhibition is the use, power and the symbolisation of trees. Lindsay’s work is alluring and a strong talking point within the Club. Here at Adam Street Private Members’ Club we strive to provide platforms for our members, clients and visitors to connect together.”
